Westminster United Church has sold its property at 1680 Dougall Ave., Windsor, Ontario.
The purchasers, members of the Sikh community, are transforming the building into a gurdwara. It will be open 24 hours a day, serving as a religious temple, a community kitchen serving all denominations, a school, and a shelter for visitors.
Westminster United Church has been worshipping and serving the community at this location for over 100 years. The last worship service at this location was held on August 3, 2025.
Recently, the congregation voted to disband, with a final date to be determined this fall.
In the meantime, the congregation will continue to gather each Sunday at the Alzheimer Society of Windsor-Essex County, 2135 Richmond St., Windsor until the end of October 2025.
Westminster United Church Council spokesperson, Marion Overholt said “We are delighted that Westminster’s former building will continue to be used by a faith community to serve Windsor.”
