Westminster United Church has for many years supported the Leprosy Mission by collecting used stamps which are trimmed and checked over to remove any damaged or otherwise unsuitable offerings and then delivered to the Mission. The Mission in turn sells the stamps to stamp dealers and earns about 9,000 to 10,000 dollars per annum to help the ongoing work of the Mission. Stamps of any denomination, age and country of origin are acceptable. It should be noted here that Leprosy not only continues to present a major challenge around the world but is also present in Canada. When removing stamps from envelopes, an approximate 1/4 inch of paper should be left around the edge. Closer trimming, while acceptable, risks cutting into the stamp rendering them worthless. In addition to rescuing the stamps affixed to your own incoming mail, consider soliciting friends and organizations to save used stamps for us also. There is a box placed in the box clearly marked for the purpose of receiving your stamp offerings. The present "used stamp co-ordinator" is Len Allen (416-241-1657) who can be contacted at any time for additional information on our stamp project. Questions, comments or suggestions to webmaster
